    Langer's Deli

    across from MacArthur Park

Try the #19 on rye, a specifically recommended order.

    1. You can also go to Langer’s before then which isn’t very far from there for a pastrami sandwich (one can feed two people).

    2. Langers

    3. Langers pastrami Reuben is the single best sandwich I've ever had.

    Lucas Museum Cafe

    Lucas Museum

Try the grilled cheese: one diner said it was good and a handy snack.

    1. I got it, I thought it was actually great. Felt like a decent homemade PB&J.

    2. It's probably just an uncrustable, but still not a bad price

    3. The grilled cheese plus tomato soup combo! I was disappointed about Starbucks being the coffee they chose. It wasn't very good either. The food was good.

    The Hat

Try the pastrami sandwich: one diner praises it, though another finds the pastrami overly salty.

    1. for sure, still unmatched value. especially now

    2. Smaller… but still enormous!

    3. Sammies from The Hat and a $80 bottle of red

    Yerord Mas Bakery and Deli

    1. People are so weird. Complain about a 3/4# of cooked brisket and house made bread but go bananas 🍌 for a $20 breakfast burrito with absolutely nothing prepared from scratch lol.

    2. I feel like this sandwich was cheaper before they became a brick and mortar. It was still expensive but after having it I totally understand the price tag even now. I would get it again even at $40, but probably only once or twice a year.

Every component of the sandwich is specially crafted and delicious and the amount of man hours must add up along with the price tag for the quality ingredients. … I feel like this sandwich was cheaper before they became a brick and mortar. It was still expensive but after having it I totally understand the price tag even now. I would get it again even at $40, but probably only once or twice a year. … Saying it’s just a sandwich does kind of undermine the effort that goes into it, but at the end of the day we all have a cost benefit analysis where “worth it” dips off at a certain price tag.

    Philippe The Original

    Chinatown

Try a French dip; one diner suggests beef or lamb with the dip on the side, while another finds the beef somewhat dry.

    1. Lamb double dip w/ Swiss cheese at Philippe's

    2. Phillipes in Chinatown for a must try French dip sandwich. LA staple.

    3. Philippe's is Iconic and it's pretty good. However most people don't know they have a Breakfast Menu. From 7:30 to 10:30 I believe. If you happen to be in the Downtown LA area around that time it's worth a Stop. You should probably also check it out for Lunch or Dinner the Roast Beef sandwiches and the general atmosphere and old school feel of the place is worth experiencing.

    Giamela’s

    Atwater Village

For a pepper steak sub, commenters recommend marinara or red bell pepper mayo; one visit found the steak good but a little underseasoned.

    1. They're known for their pepper steak sandwich, so for my first visit, I went with the version that comes with pesto mayo, though they also offer variations with Italian dressing, red bell pepper mayo, or no additional sauce at all. As you can see from the photo, it's a generous portion, though a lot of that volume comes from the chopped vegetables. The sandwich isn't actually that unwieldy if you squeeze everything together before taking a bite.

I noticed that the menu also includes a meatball sub, and if and when I come back, that'll probably be the next thing I try. … Overall, this was satisfying. I liked the soft seeded roll and next time, I may ask if they’d toast it just to give it a little extra crunch. The pepper steak was good, if a bit underseasoned, and I also really enjoyed the chopped vegetables, which added plenty of texture. That said, I would have liked a bit more acid overall. The pesto mayo was similar: pleasant but could be more assertive. … They're known for their pepper steak sandwich, so for my first visit, I went with the version that comes with pesto mayo, though they also offer variations with Italian dressing, red bell pepper mayo, or no additional sauce at all. Howlin' Rays

Try the chicken sandwich with a little spice; one diner recommends Medium Plus for a kick, while another found Hot punishing.

    1. For Chicken Sandwich, the Chimmelier one is the best, but my second option would be Howlin Rays.

    2. Medium Plus is the real Hot spice level at Howlin if you want a solid kick while still being able to enjoy your food.

    3. luis style sando from howlin rays

Consider the made-to-order deli sandwich with chips and water; one commenter describes it as a $6 meal.

    1. Man I really love their turkey sandwich, I can’t believe they still sell them that cheap! This is so long ago but I would always grab one for lunch, this was 10 plus years ago. Dang it OP I need to get one this weekend now 🤣!

    2. If you go to sprouts when they open, they have sandwiches that they didn’t sale from the previous day for more than 50% off. I got a pretty good turkey sandwich for $3.75

    3. You can get a made to order deli sandwich from Sprouts with chips and water for six dollars.

    Matu Steakhouse

Try the cheesesteak if you want a meat-heavy, dressed-up take; one diner liked its spicy pepper, while another found it unlike a traditional Philly cheesesteak.

    1. Philly cheesesteak at Matu. Love when simple dishes are perfected, it’s like In n Out for cheesesteaks.

    2. I had the Brentwood Matu and thought the cheesesteak was fine, but not amazing.

    3. Matu for me

    Honeybaked Ham

    Sherman Oaks

For a simple lunch, try a cold-turkey sandwich; one commenter found it good and less expensive than Subway.

    1. I love the Tavern Club

    2. Their sandwiches aren’t that bad. Good cold turkey for a bit less than the price of Subway

    3. They actually do a bunch of different ham and turkey sandwiches for lunch that are good.
