Consider Kin Khao for upscale, inventive Thai; one recommendation specifically suits diners who like heat.
Another option near Union Square is Kin Khao (Thai, with vegetarian options; in the Parc 55 Hilton, 55 Cyril Magnin). I've had excellent food there.
Khin Kao, from the same people, is also in a hotel, the Parc 55. Feels much more like a conventional Thai restaurant, but excellent food.
no LA and Seattle place got a Michelin Star thai place so your top answers should be Kin Khao and Nari

Try the squid and pork jowl, a dish specifically recommended by multiple diners.
If you’re open to Thai, nari has great drinks and a nice bar upstairs.
Nari: Thai, 1 star. Really fantastic elevated takes on Thai food without losing its soul.
Nari or Saam or King Khao for high end Thai.

Khao Tiew
West Portal
At the West Portal location, consider the borracho bai phad krapao, described as an interesting California-Thai dish.
Best food in the area imo is Khao Tiew if you like Thai food.
Khao Tiew hands down. Its gets very busy though!

Sorry this is late, but do you have any specific recommendations at Zen Yai? I’ve been and also thought it was the closest to what I had in Bangkok but I’m sure I missed tons of dishes!
Zen yai for legit authentic thai
zen yai no question

The ThongLor
Union Square
At the Geary location, one visit praised the red shrimp curry, pad thai, and chicken-broccoli stir-fried noodles.
Put some respect on Thonglor which is steps from Powell and Geary. Some of the best Thai in the Bay
The Thonglor! Open til 11, right by the St Francis, affordable and very delicious Thai food.
This is my favorite - very consistent. Recommend the thonglor curry.

Marnee Thai
Inner Sunset
Try the Angel Wings, a dish singled out positively at Marnee Thai.
Thai: farm house kitchen or marnee Thai.
I grew up going to Marnee Thai often and still love it. If they’re still offering the hotcakes (they used to be seasonal,) those are incredible.

Thai at Lers Ros
Lers Ros or Nari for good Thai
Thai: Lers Ros, Chili Cha Cha 2

Saap Ver
Try the spicy tom yum soup, which one commenter particularly praised.
Saap Ver has some very spicy Thai food
farmhouse Thai (or Saap ver for budget friendly)
Spicy tom yum soup at saap ver is really good.
9
Farmhouse Thai Kitchen
Try the Hat Yai fried chicken; it’s specifically recommended.
farmhouse thai is decent but I find their prices now to be outrageous. Their classics are still quite good but I think there are much better options for your $.
Mango sticky rice from farmhouse Thai
Farmhouse Thai also has the little Lao table for $135. It's all their best stuff, the short rib, the fried chicken, noodles, appetizers, fried rice... it's amazing. But like all things at Farmhouse, it's gotten more expensive in the last few years. I used to get it all the time during COVID and shortly after, but when it got above $100, I kinda just stopped.

Nute’s pad kee mao
Nutes. Cortland St.
I'm partial to Nute's in Bernal Heights. Pad se ew and pad thai are excellent there, and they also do some northern thai soups/ramens.
